Dr. Babu Narayanan KJ, Chief Technologist, CenetreOf Excellence In Wireless Technology (CEWIT)
Q1. Thank you very much for your very valuable support to India m2m + iot Forum 2016. We are indeed very honoured to have you at the third edition of India m2m + iot Forum.
May we request you to kindly let our participants of India m2m + iot Forum 2016 know of your views and thoughts about the forum? Do you think it is important and necessary to have a forum such as India m2m + iot Forum, that brings together the stakeholders from the m2m and iot ecosystem in India and globally and provides a platform to discuss, deliberate and exchange?
IoT and M2M are new not only in India but across the globe. Interactions and exchanges between various players in the growing IoT/M2M ecosystem will make it more vibrant and help it progress in the right direction. Forums such as these provide excellent opportunity to get a very wide view of the industry and the market.
Q2. The 3rd edition of India m2m + iot Forum this year is jointly organized by m2m2iotpaper.com, TSDSI (Telecommunications Standards Development Society, India) and TCOE (Telecom Centres of Excellence, India). What value do you think does the joint organization of this forum brings to the table? What are your expectations from TSDSI and TCOE in this forum?
As a national standards organisation, TSDSI has a huge role to play with regard to the IoT/M2M industry in India. Standardization is one of the most important ways to get the industry move faster with involvement from a wider segment of stakeholders. Lack of standardization can bring bottlenecks to the industry, especially a burgeoning industry like IoT which is multiple dimensional and spanning several domains.
Q3. Considering the unprecedented rise in the number of start-ups in the m2m and iot space in India which is quiet encouraging as it indicates the untapped potential that exists in the markets in India, what would be your suggestions for this budding extension of the industry and which are the areas, industries, and verticals, where you see the most potential and growth for them? And do you think a forum such as India m2m + iot Forum helps these budding entrepreneurs and enterprises in anyways?
This space is seeing lot of interest from industry and academia. There are many start-ups already in this area including incubatees from institutes. Huge potential exists in fields like smart cities, transportation, manufacturing, utilities and medical. Considering that a budding entrepreneur is new to building business and that the area is also new, learning from each other is important. A forum like this can provide such a platform and also help in building a network required to take their ventures forward.
Q4. Do you think the stakeholders from m2m and iot space at any and all levels whether in public and/or private and/or the national and global top professional and trade associations and organizations should come forward and utilize such a forum/platform i.e. India m2m + iot Forum, and encourage and support such forums?
IOT/M2M has applications in almost every field – governance, service delivery, infrastructure, manufacturing, home, enterprises, the list can go on! There are several common aspects cutting across these which can be addressed in a forum. It is all the more so in these initial stages where application of IoT in one field gives lots of inputs for applying to another.
Q5. What companies/organizations, participants, panel discussion topics would you like the forum India m2m + iot Forum 2016 to cover and deliver? And, what would you like to take away from India m2m + iot Forum in 2016?
Among the discussions that cover the status of the industry and various views of the experts in the field, I would like to have representatives from the user groups including the government sector present their views of what want IoT to address for them.
