Q1. Thank you very much for your very valuable support to India m2m + iot Forum 2016. We are indeed very honoured to have you at the third edition of India m2m + iot Forum.
May we request you to kindly let our participants of India m2m + iot Forum 2016 know of your views and thoughts about the forum? Do you think it is important and necessary to have a forum such as India m2m + iot Forum, that brings together the stakeholders from the m2m and iot ecosystem in India and globally and provides a platform to discuss, deliberate and exchange?
Yes, indeed it is important for India to have a platform in the form of M2M + IoT Forum where all stakeholders come together and discuss. This coming together will lead to successful contribution of India specific M2M and IoT standards requirements at International SDOs and express India’s needs in M2M + IoT space in one voice.
Q2. The 3rd edition of India m2m + iot Forum this year is jointly organized by m2m2iotpaper.com, TSDSI (Telecommunications Standards Development Society, India) and TCOE (Telecom Centres of Excellence, India). What value do you think does the joint organization of this forum brings to the table? What are your expectations from TSDSI and TCOE in this forum?
The joint organization will help in bringing together experts from different domains encouraging sharing of ideas and possible working together in future. IoT being a multidisciplinary activity TSDSI and TCOE can take a lead in formalizing mechanisms in bringing together IoT technology experts and the IoT domain experts & users like health, energy, water, environment, supply chain etc.
Q3. Considering the unprecedented rise in the number of start-ups in the m2m and iot space in India which is quiet encouraging as it indicates the untapped potential that exists in the markets in India, what would be your suggestions for this budding extension of the industry and which are the areas, industries, and verticals, where you see the most potential and growth for them? And do you think a forum such as India m2m + iot Forum helps these budding entrepreneurs and enterprises in anyways?
The potential IoT application areas can be divided into two broad categories: urban and rural. Some of the urban solutions can be: (1) Smart Metering – water, electricity; (2) Government can ensure building of all new civil structures (e.g., underground metro, airports, railway/bus stations, street lightings, air quality etc.) to support IoT based monitoring and control. The rural problem should address ruggedized and easy to use solutions connected to agriculture – for e.g., IoT enabled solar motor pumps, translating IoT enabled precision agriculture ideas for small scale farming etc.
Q4. Do you think the stakeholders from m2m and iot space at any and all levels whether in public and/or private and/or the national and global top professional and trade associations and organizations should come forward and utilize such a forum/platform i.e. India m2m + iot Forum, and encourage and support such forums?
True, the challenges we face today is similar to that of Internet development. Similar to Internet, the development of IoT ecosystem and relevant standards will have to be solved at the international level. Considering the global nature of the problem, it requires working together of and support from national and international organizations both public and private.
Q5. What companies/organizations, participants, panel discussion topics would you like the forum India m2m + iot Forum 2016 to cover and deliver? And, what would you like to take away from India m2m + iot Forum in 2016?
The coverage of topics is quite exhaustive and there is also an appropriate mix of panellists from Govt., industry and academia. The next M2M + IoT forum can plan a preconference academic event / tutorials to address participants looking for deeper technical discussions in IoT domain. But, I think, this is partly taken care in the schedule by paper presentation in between panels. The take away from the forum is how to leverage this meeting for the development of IoT standards, ecosystem and various usecases at the national level.
